The 2013 Tableau Customer Conference just wrapped-up this week in Washington, DC. As usual, Christian Chabot (Tableau Co-Founder and CEO) and Chris Stolte (Tableau Co-Founder and CDO) delivered a fantastic keynote address.
Tableau has integrated some exciting new features into the upcoming
release of Tableau
Desktop and Tableau Server. Ellie Fields (Senior
Director at Tableau)
summarized a few of the features that were shared/demonstrated by the Tableau
Development Team during the
keynote address:
1. Seamless access to data
- Data connection interface
- Visual joins
- Dateparse function (increased flexibility with date formats)
- Easier metadata
2. Visual analytics for everyone
- Boxplot
- Percentiles as a new aggregation
- Forecasting improvements- and new prediction bands
- Ranking
- New totals- two-pass totals
- Revolution R integration
- Folders in the data window (group dimensions and measures into folders)
- Transparency setting for titles, legends, logos
- Formatted quick filters to match font and colour palette in visualization
- Better presentation mode (centers the visualization/dashboard)
- Calendar control (pop-up calendar view of date filters)
- ‘Apply’ button in filter (control when the filter gets applied – improves dashboard speed)
- Copy/paste dashboards and sheets between workbooks
5. Enterprise
- Improved performance & scalability
- External load balancers
- 64bit- server and desktop
- SAML- single sign-on for Desktop and Server
- ipv6
- Tableau Online
- Web authoring enhancements: moving quick filters, iPad improvement, color encoding
- Tableau on the Mac in v8.2
